Arrived on time, met up with our agent and headed straight to Isawa to visit Sakuma. Didn't get there until late afternoon due to delay on railway. A "Delay" on their network? Yes - someone had decided to commit suicide on the line in the direction we were going!
Selected five stunning Kohaku - pure white skin and superb Hi, sizes ranging from 28 - 33cm. You can check out three of this selection by clicking here (ref. nos. 20, 21 & 22). Also picked out a very nice Sanke.
Due to the sun disappearing, decided to get some rest and start afresh in the morning
after a few hours sleep.
Picked up at hotel by Sakuma and headed back to his facility to view his jumbo 2 and 3 years stock. There were some incredible koi here including Showa, Sanke, Kohaku and Gin Rin Showa.
After spending some time just taking in the beauty of these koi, I decided on getting two exceptional Kohaku. Both of these koi are of very high quality and have beautiful patterns. We then went on to see Hiroi who had some very high quality Gin Rin Goshiki, Doitsu Sanke and Doitsu Kohaku. However the asking price made them just too expensive to purchase. We then made our way back to the train station for our journey back to Tokyo and then across to Niigata,
where my next update will come from.
After breakfast at the Mets we headed off to see Aoki, always worth a visit as he does produce some very good quality Doitsu koi and I just had to have a box.
Then on to Kasa, also a breeder of fine Doitsu koi but he had obviously sold his best already.
We headed in to the mountain area to see Shinoda who has the best Hi Utsuri to be seen with out doubt along with Doitsu, so we will return later to pick some out.
Next stop was Yagengi where I bowled up three of the most stunning Shiro Utsuri. These fish were probably the highest quality Shiros that you would find in Niigata.
Marusada managed to get some good metalics here including Kinki Utsuri, Madorigoi and Lemon Hariwake.
After a quick visit to Hosokai, followed by Iwashita, we called in to Otsuka where I picked out a box of Ki Utsuri, Tancho Kohaku, Aka Matsuba, Goshike and Hi Utsuri. So after quite a busy day and with daylight quickly fading we headed back to the hotel.
Went to Jirosuke first thig and picked up two very good Gn Rin Kujaku and Doitsu Yamato. Then on to Masaki where I bought a really stunning 3-year-old Shiro Utsuri. We then went back to Aoki where I selected another box of his incredible Doitsu metallics.
Tomorrow we will make our way back to Tokyo for a look round before getting back to
Narita where we will spend our last night before flying home on Tuesday
